Learn photography amid the iconic scenery of South West Cornwall
Dramatic Coastal Locations
As well as visiting some of the most well known locations in the region, such as the dramatically situated Botallack tin mines (made famous in the TV series Poldark) and the spectacular scenery found at Lands End, we will also be exploring some of the beautiful secluded little coves dotted around the coastline.
Mousehole, with its pretty harbour is particularly charming and offers plenty of opportunity for detail captures.
Picturesque Fishing Villages And Hidden Coves
Along with the tin mining industry, Cornwall is well known for its fishing industry. Cadgewith Cove, on the beautiful Lizard Peninsula, has a delightful traditional harbour to explore. Nearby, Kynance Cove offers a perfectly picturesque beach with turquoise water and dramatic rocky outcrops. The pretty little harbour village of Mousehole is also unmissable.
We will also photograph towards Godrevy Lighthouse from beautiful Gwithian beach. With its rocky foreground and epic views towards the Atlantic, it offers numerous opportunities for the photographer.
Photograph The Sunrise At St Michael's Mount
From our base in Penzance, we will be ideally positioned with easy access to the coastline, allowing us the opportunity for both sunrise and sunset shoots. The incredibly photogenic St Michael’s Mount lies right on our doorstep. As a photographer you will be spoilt for choice here.

South West Cornwall Workshop - General Information
The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their photography so photographers of all levels of experience are welcome. Please note; this workshop is not suitable fro the complete beginner.
Over the course of the workshop we will help you to get the most from your camera, and work with you on composition and camera technique to enable you to capture the best images possible ‘in-camera’. We will give you both practical and technical advice, as well as individual guidance and hands on demonstrations in the field, at locations chosen to both challenge and inspire you. We will also look at the creative side of photography and developing your vision.
A minimum of 5 bookings are required for the workshop to proceed.
We will meet at 6pm on the first evening for with an introductory talk and discussion before dinner, on each participants needs and aims – an essential aspect of ensuring that every participant gets as much as possible from the course. You will also at this stage be briefed on the programme for the next 3 days.
Our photography commences the next morning and runs through until 4:00pm on the final day. We will visit a number of diverse locations, all of which will offer you numerous challenges and provide you with ample opportunity to practice a number of techniques. There will also be the opportunity for dawn (weather and conditions permitting) and dusk shoots.
We will have the chance to review your images in our image critique sessions, when you’ll be able to discuss them with your tutors, and fellow photographers, and receive constructive feedback as we look back on our photography.
The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun! There will also be time to relax and chat over dinner in the evening.

We will have two – three vehicles to take us between locations each day. A volunteer driver will be required if numbers dictate, and fuel reimbursed at the rate of 27p per mile.
Our base is Keigwin Guest House in Penzance. 3 nights single occupancy accommodation with a private bathroom is included here.
Moderate – Good
Some of the ground will be uneven, particularly on the beach, and there will be a degree of mostly flat walking to access some of the locations. The pebbles and rocks on the beach are also likely to be slippery.
- DSLR or mirrorless camera with ideally both wide angle and telephoto lenses
- Tripod
- Cable/remote release
- Whilst not essential, you will benefit from bringing neutral density graduated filters; a polariser and a neutral density filter.
- It is also recommended that you also bring a rain cover for your camera.
- A laptop and card reader is useful to select and review your images for the purpose of our image critiques but not essential.
